The Flicker Mind

The Flicker Mind is an independent lighting knowledge and technology initiative developed by The Lighting Products LLP.

It investigates how lighting information can be structured, connected, examined and reused more effectively.

The project combines lighting knowledge with data engineering, computation and open digital methods.

Its focus is not conventional project delivery.

TFM is being developed as infrastructure that can support many different participants in the lighting ecosystem without requiring the platform itself to become their lighting consultant.

What TFM is building

The work currently centres on four areas:

Knowledge — technical explanations and research.

Data — structured lighting information and provenance.

Tools — transparent computational utilities.

Studies — reproducible investigations into lighting behaviour.

These areas share one underlying objective:

make lighting information easier to examine, verify, compute and exchange.

Development

TFM is being developed incrementally.

Features are introduced only when the underlying information is sufficiently structured to support them.

This means data architecture comes before artificial intelligence.

Evidence comes before recommendation.

Reliable foundations come before scale.
